What’s Happening Beyond Markets?

  • According to the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), India’s retail inflation based on the Consumer Price Index stood at 5.54% in September 2026. This rise was largely driven by year-on-year consumer food inflation reaching 7.74%.
  • According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India’s total internet subscribers reached 1,114.17 million by the end of June 2026. Wireless subscribers drove the 1.96% quarterly growth, while average monthly mobile data usage per subscriber rose to 28.39 GB.
  • According to the Ministry of Coal, coal stocks at domestic power plants stabilised above 18 million tonnes in early October 2026. A 10% increase in daily rake loading by Indian Railways boosted coal supplies, significantly slowing the stock depletion rate.

What is the Difference Between Stocks and REITs?

Think of buying a stock like owning a piece of a business, while buying a REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) is like owning a piece of income-generating real estate. When you buy a stock, you own a fraction of a company. Your returns depend on the company’s growth, product success, and stock price appreciation.

A REIT is a company that buys, operates, or finances commercial properties like malls, apartments, or warehouses. By law, REITs must pay out at least 90% of their taxable income to shareholders as dividends. While both trade on stock exchanges, standard stocks generally aim to reinvest profits to grow their share price over time. REITs are designed primarily to generate steady, high-dividend payout income for investors directly from property rentals without having to buy physical real estate yourself.
