Shrugging off broader market caution, shares of Cyient Ltd. leapt 11% to touch an intraday peak of ₹1,268 on Friday after reporting strong second-quarter earnings. Powered by a 25.5% year-on-year surge in consolidated revenue to ₹2,235.0 crore, operating profitability touching a 10-quarter high of 10.2%, and a hefty ₹12-per-share interim dividend, the print confirmed that client demand for high-value engineering solutions remains robust.

  • EBIT Growth: Consolidated EBIT rose 13.5% QoQ and 36.5% YoY to ₹228.4 crore.
  • Margin Expansion: EBIT margin expanded to 10.2%, climbing 83 basis points year-on-year and reaching its highest operating level in 10 quarters.
  • Profitability: Consolidated Net Profit landed at ₹132.5 crore, advancing 21.9% QoQ from ₹108.7 crore in the June quarter. (Profit attributable to shareholders of the parent stood at ₹121.4 crore, up 16.6% sequentially). While elevated finance costs and associate adjustments kept annual bottom-line growth muted, the sequential rebound soundly beat street expectations.

Where Did the Growth Come From?

Cyient operates across distinct lifecycle verticals, and nearly all the engines fired in tandem this quarter:

  • Digital, Engineering & Technology (DET): The core services engine brought in consolidated revenue of ₹1,664.2 crore, up 8.1% sequentially and 15.7% YoY. The segment’s operating margins expanded to 14.2%, anchored by Transportation & Mobility (aerospace, automotive, and rail), which clocked its sixth consecutive quarter of sequential growth. The quarter also saw the first-month consolidation of recently acquired US-based TAO Digital Solutions, adding enterprise AI and data engineering muscle.
  • Design-Led Manufacturing (Cyient DLM): Revenue reached ₹393.1 crore, up 26.5% YoY, led by industrial and aerospace execution. More importantly, Cyient DLM clocked its sixth consecutive quarter of record order inflows with a book-to-bill ratio of 1.6x, giving clear visibility into the second half of the fiscal year.
  • Cyient Semiconductors: Revenue climbed to ₹184.7 crore, continuing a 6-quarter streak of top-line gains aided by the Kinetic Technologies acquisition. The vertical posted an EBIT loss of ₹30.0 crore, but management clarified that the core business remains self-sustaining; the operational deficit stems from aggressive product R&D investments in high-voltage power solutions for AI data centers and custom ASICs, where the active pipeline now exceeds $100 million.

Sweeteners for Shareholders & Strategic Tuck-Ins

Beyond the core numbers, the board delivered two key corporate updates:

  1. Interim Dividend: Declared an interim dividend of ₹12.0 per equity share (a 240% payout on a face value of ₹5). The record date has been set for October 28, 2026, with payouts scheduled to be completed by November 17, 2026.
  2. Consolidating Defence & Aerospace: The company is acquiring the remaining 49% stake in Cyient Solutions and Systems Private Limited (CSSPL) from Israel’s Blue Bird Aero Systems for a cash consideration of ₹1,00,000, turning the unmanned aerial systems and defence unit into a 100% wholly-owned subsidiary.

What to Watch Going Forward

Cyient’s pivot toward “Intelligent Lifecycle Engineering” straddling chip design, platform software, and precision electronics manufacturing is clearly beginning to reflect in order book additions. Technology order intake grew nearly 40% YoY, signalling that clients are leaning into engineering-led AI implementations.

The primary balancing act for investors to track in upcoming quarters will be capital discipline: recent inorganic acquisitions have driven non-current borrowings up to ₹2,250.6 crore, while memory supply shortages and continued wafer and chip R&D investments may keep semiconductor segment margins under near-term pressure. For now, though, strong cash generation and expanding operating leverage in the core DET business have given the street plenty of reasons to celebrate.
